A 17 year-old female with type 1 diabetes was admitted to the Accident and Emergency department because of an acute illness.

She had been vomiting intermittently for the past two hours and was drowsy. She had been feeling unwell for the past day with ‘flu-like symptoms and had not given herself her insulin.
